THIGH LIFT

Anyone who struggles with excess skin on their legs as a sign of aging or the result of major weight loss, knows the problems and complaints that come with it.

The aesthetics often cause immense problems for those affected, and there are also limitations in everyday life that patients complain about.

Depending on the extent of the excess skin or tissue, it becomes more difficult to do the simplest things. The skin is constantly chafing against each other and sometimes even walking or running can become a burden. In these cases, a thigh lift can help.

Why a thigh lift?

The aim of the thigh lift is to remove excess, sagging skin from the legs.
Often times, people struggle with excess tissue as a result of significant weight loss.

On the one hand, this occurs increasingly in people who generally have weak connective tissue; on the other hand, previous weight fluctuations can exhaust the elasticity of the tissue and thus deprive it of the ability to adapt to the new shape of the leg.

In patients with weak connective tissue, slackness can also occur as part of the natural aging process

The natural aging process should not be underestimated and has a particularly strong effect on women. Sport and a healthy diet can have a great influence on the connective tissue and its strength, but the fact that the tissue gradually slackens, in some more than in others, cannot be completely avoided.

Every patient is different and has different anatomical features, so there are different methods of performing the thigh lift.

The main focus is on the incision, which depends on the amount and distribution of the excess tissue.

A thigh lift can be achieved by making an incision along the groin and the buttock fold (horizontal method). The cut is significantly shorter than with the following method. However, it can only be used to remove small amounts of the excess soft tissue from the upper part of the thigh.

If the excess tissue is more pronounced, the incision is made along the inside of the thigh (vertical method). This begins a few centimeters above the knee and extends up to the groin. The performing plastic surgeon has more leeway and can therefore optimally tighten even in serious cases.

In both procedures, after the incision has been made, the excess fat and skin tissue is removed and then sutured again.

Both options can be combined with liposuction.

Like any surgery, a thigh lift also involves certain risks

The general surgical risks associated with a leg lift include infections, bleeding, thrombosis or poor tolerance to anesthesia.

Despite all measures, the wound healing process can be more difficult in individual cases. Under certain circumstances, this in turn can lead to increased scarring. In general, however, you should keep in mind that a thin scar will always be left behind.

Slight swelling or bruising may occur after the operation, but will resolve within one to two weeks.
